Windows OS

Windows 7 and 8.1 are now obsolete if you have these Operating Systems you should use them to take the Free Upgrade to Windows 10.

If you don’t have a Windows 7/8.1 license you have until the 2nd of October 2015 to upgrade to Windows 10 for free using the Windows 10 Insider 10130 as a stepping stone. See Free Upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 10 (also works with Windows XP).

OS Updates

System utilities

* See instructions on using the Microsoft Update Catalog and install drivers via the Device Manager.

Please comment if this legacy driver works as its the X1250X and not the X1270X but the installer may include drivers for both or if the Dell driver works or whether the driver from the Microsoft Update Catalog works the best. Same as Inspiron 1526.

For Windows 8.1 the audio driver is inbuilt to the OS and the registry file or older Sigmatel Driver should not be installed.

  1. Not sure if this page is still active, but I have been trying to install Windows 7 Pro 64bit on my Latitude D531. Installed it on a SSD. I haven’t done everything in terms of updating the all recommended stuff yet, but I cannot get the sound to work. I have tried the version linked on this page, and various other things. All I get is a loud, distorted crackle when there’s a sound supposed to be playing. Can this actually work? Am I missing something?
