Windows Insider Preview Settings

Written Guide

There are five development stages of Windows 10:

  • Skip Ahead – The Latest Windows 10 Release as Released by Microsoft with No Testing
  • Fast – Marginal Testing from Skip Ahead Testers
  • Slow – Moderate Testing from Skip Ahead and Fast Users
  • Mainstream – The Mainstream Build released to the Public
  • End of Life – Builds of Windows 10 No Longer Supported by Microsoft. These are insecure to use and users should automatically be updated to the Latest Mainstream Build

For Windows Insider Preview Builds you must be logged in with a Microsoft Account.

Although one should be able to change these settings in:

Settings>Updates & Security>Windows Insider Program

Sometimes we get the error message

Your Windows Insider Program Content Settings Have Been Reverted. We Did This Because you Selected Skip Ahead, but Skip Ahead is Now Closed. You'll Continue to Receive Updates as Usual.

To get to a different level we need to change settings in the registry editor.
