  1. Thanks for your efforts, this was very helpful. Dell Inspiron 6000

  2. Hi Philip,
I cannot seem to find the drivers for :
    MULTIMEDIA AUDIO CONTROLLERS
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_266E&SUBSYS_01881028&REV_03
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_266E&SUBSYS_01881028
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_266E&CC_040100
    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_266E&CC_0401
    Thanks much again

  3. OK then I will try the one that is listed. These drivers are from the Inspiron 6000.

  4. Recently managed to upgrade an Inspiron 6000 from XP to 7 for Win 10 which works; got sound thanks to this page but have yet to install an appropriate Video Driver. Found / tried 4 at the Dell page when I entered the Service Tag. Ideas input welcome. Thanks again!

    1. The Inspiron 6000 has Intel 915GM graphics driver… it has no Windows 8.1 or 10 driver hence I didn't state the system worked with Windows 8.1.

      1. Thanks Philip, No tricks to get the video driver to work with Windows 10 as of yet? Was it supposed to have been 128346 in XP compatibility mode or 153383 / CL_45540? (having problems with shift keys and capitals here too… need to use the caps lock and only the left hand side shift key… tried the new driver but no effect. Also updated the chipset per the Dell page.)

      2. Likely you don't have Dell Quickset installed either. The Vista Quickset didn't list this model as compatible and there is only the XP version. As mentioned this hardware is more than a decade old and particular because of the video I wouldn't recommend using Windows 10 with it.

    2. If you have the ATI variant and want Windows 10 support, download 10-02_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc from the AMD site (which doesn't support mobile variants) and then process it with FLEM (to add support for mobile variants).

This is the last driver to support these old ATI chips – so this is the best you can achieve – and it works pretty well on my ancient Inspiron 6000.

  5. Thank you. I will research / address Quickset and look elsewhere for help as I either need to fix this one last item or revert to Win 7 which from what I understood would have supported the XP graphics driver.

      1. Well as you can see on this page there were special instructions/workarounds for getting the XP version of Dell Quickset to work with Windows 7. As I mentioned the video doesn't work with Windows 8.1 or Windows 10…

Moreover my Inspiron 1300 which has similar hardware died so I never bothered with any further testing. I would recommend not relying on such an old system

  6. Hi Philip,

Just letting you know the link to the AMD Legacy Video Driver (Variant B) no longer works.

Thank you for this excellent tutorial. My old Dell is quite snappy with Windows 7 and 2Gb Ram.

    Regards,

    Paul

      1. Hi Philipyip,

I am not at the laptop at the moment but I do remember it is an ATI Mobility Radeon X300 if that helps.

Otherwise I will get those hardware ids to you in a short period.

        Thank you.

        Paul

  7. I know this is a old subject but I recently put Windows 7 on my inspiron 6000 . And for the most part it does ok , but I was having a few issues with stuff like the video and sound .. so I started installing the things that you mentioned and when I get to the Intel chipset part I'm lost I'm not sure what it is that I'm supposed to download from the website. …. any help would be greatly appreciated

    1. Thats a really old system now its about 12 years old moreover Windows 7 has reached end of OEM and Retail sales.

Assuming you've got some license for cheap the clean install of Windows 7 32 Bit may be worthwhile. If not your best looking for a 2nd hand Latitude E series.

The setupchipset.exe should work on the link: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/20775

  8. Ok thanks , I got the laptop for free and so far I only spent about $25 on some upgrades . What I want it for is to do some vhs to dvd transfers on some old home movies I have, so once I get it set up I'm not even going to have it online
