Inspiron 1300 – Windows 7 32 Bit

This model and Operating System is not supported by Dell.

Remarks: This system won't run Windows 7 32 bit very well as it is an old model and the cost of a license probably is more than the entire laptop is worth.

The video capability is below system requirements the Vista GM915 HP driver will work for WIndows 7 32 Bit but not Windows 8.1 32 Bit.

Recommended Hardware Upgrades

It is recommended 2 GB of RAM to be installed. Windows 7 32 bit won't install unless you have at least 1 GB of RAM installed.

The hard drive interface is IDE and hence a SATA SSD cannot be installed.

Refer to the Service Manual when Replacing Hardware.

  1. I tried running suggested video driver and it says OS not supported. Then I just saved the files to a thumb drive and tried pointing device manager to it and it says it worked then I rebooted and my video is all jacked up? Can anybody help?

    1. Thanks, I'm aware of the change. Unfortunately I have at least a hundred links to Crucial embedded within these unofficial driver sets and have not got round to updating every one of them.

      1. No its not compatible, have a look at the first line on this page which tells you the video drivers won't work for Windows 8.

Besides the video, the systems hardware is very poor. It will not run Windows 8.1 very well. Its best to put the money together for a new Windows 8.1 or second hand Windows 7/8.1 computer than buy a new Windows license.

  2. Same thing here directed to the file and installed ok but upon reboot the video is all screwed up, any help

  3. Great article for an old school computer… I did a RAM upgrade to 2go, BIOS update to A10, and installed Windows Home Premium Edition 32bits. Only video driver missing after windows installation. Used the referenced package (Intel GM915 Driver from HP), try to launch the exe but "OS not supported" error. I finally went to "manage computer", "device manager" and manually indicate that the driver to use is in the folder where the referenced package was unzipped. restart 2x and done !

    1. I didn't think anyone was still upgrading these systems to Windows 7. It worked for me directly on my Inspiron 1300 when I tried it a long time ago… I didn't need to use the device manager to manually update it.

    2. Thank you for posting that the HP Intel GM915 Driver worked via manually pointing to the folder where the driver was unzipped. Worked also on mine.

  4. I litrally upgraded my harddrive to 120gb (largest possible ) attached an external hard drive for files installed new processor intel dual core and 2×2 gb ram and it my insprpiron 1300 runs windows 7 professional n

    1. Interesting not seen someone put a dual core in that machine but the main bottleneck is the system has really poor onboard graphics.
