Inspiron Laptops

Legacy Systems:

These legacy systems scratch Windows 7 32 Bit minimum hardware requirements… In most cases they will be unable to run Windows 8.1 32 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit and Windows 8.1 64 Bit Operating System. As their overall hardware is ageing they are not worth the price of an upgrade license…

Early Vista Systems:

In the vast majority of cases Windows Vista systems will handle Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Some earlier Windows Vista systems may be 32 Bit only depending on the systems processor.

Late Vista Systems:

Newer Systems:

These are some systems that Dell have released with only Windows 8.1 drivers. These are mainly non-touch and many users have requested drivers to revert to Windows 7:

  3. I have Inspiron 1545 with Intel® Core™2 Duo T6500 processor (2.1 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB), with Windows 7 installed. 1) Do you think installing Windows 8.1 will make a difference performance wise? / 2) I haven't found the drivers from the list above. Where can I find them? Thanks in advance!

    1. Drivers wise you can use the Windows 7 drivers which will work fine with Windows 8.1 and 10. While Windows 8.1 should perform slightly better, my advise is do not waste your time or money installing Windows 8.1 on that system. Both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 are eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 10 which will be out in about 5 months.

You can evaluate the Windows 10 Technical Preview but ensure you make a Windows 7 Recovery USB using the latest version of Dell Backup and Recovery or have a Dell Windows 7 Reinstallation DVD before proceeding as Microsoft broke the Digital River downloads.

  4. I have Dell Inspiron 15 3521 LapTop and OS Windows 8.1 32bit installed I need Drivers for this .

    1. Hi Rashin manickam. Please someone guide me whether I should upgrade my Dell Inspiron N4010 14R laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10.
For me the deciding factors would be:
      1) If it is worth to switch to a heavier OS.
      2) I dont have any Data Card available if my broadband wifi drivers require an upgrade and seize to function….as I have heard that wifi is having problems in Inspiron n4010 Windows 10 upgrade and I only have an Airtel wifi for an Internet.
      3) How soon will Windows 7 be phased out if I plan to stick with it and later I might need to upgrade with a paid version.

  6. the dell 370 card can use the 380 bluetooth driver. works fine in win 10.

    1. Thanks I suspected this might be the case but only found the driver last night. I will update the Dell Wireless Cards page. I will try a Dell Wireless 355 when I put my SSD back in my Latitude D820.

  7. (Excuse my english).
I have a problem with my Inspiron 1750 on Windows 10.
There's games that needs to use OpenGL (or maybe some version of OpenGL), but these games does not detect OpenGL on my system. (I'm not sure if I can't have the OpenGL last version or if I can't have OpenGL… or even if the system does not give the correct information about OpenGL to the software I install)

    Driver video information:
    – Adapter type: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation – WDDM 1.1)
    – Adapter name: Mobile Intel(R) GMA 4500HD
    -Date: 11/03/2013
    Version: 8.15.10.2702

What do I need? 🙁 I would really really really thank you if you help me, I like Windows 10.

And other thing: Inspiron 1750 does not support DirectX 11? I have tried to install it but, when I see the system information, I still see that I have DirectX 10.

Thanks for your time! It is really appreciate it.

  8. Hi Rashin manickam. Please someone guide me whether I should upgrade my Dell Inspiron N4010 14R laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

    1. 1. Windows 10 has pretty much the same requirements as Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 (except for some very old processors). It should run lighter than Windows 7 on your hardware.
      2. The wireless card should have an inbuilt driver. It may not work perfectly but you can get a USB wireless dongle or replace the internal wireless card.
      3. The free upgrade expires at the end of next month. Its best to make a Macrium Reflect Image on an external hard drive as instructed here and then attempt a clean installation:

  9. Anyone have trouble with Windows 10 Creator's Update? I'm running Windows 10 64-bit on a 640m, and it does so very nicely. I'd rather not have to start over because Microsoft's latest is too refined for my old laptop.

  10. I have a ol 910 dell inspirion.it was preowned, running win/xp. It was running well. We added a gigabyte of memory, and had put a Linux os on it.it didn't run well.try to replace win/xp. It loads files bit then stops program with message saying no operating system found.
    Tech. Info: 0x0000007B,0xF78DA63C,
0xC0000034,0x00000000. Twice.any advice please would be most appreciated. Thank yoi

    1. Inspiron 9100? That's an ancient 2004 model. Moreover Windows XP reached end of life in April 2014.

That error message is due to the installation media not containing the storage controller for the system. Its been a long time since I covered this but this will give you instructions in updating your XP installation media (so it is less old):

  11. Just bought a used N5050 on eBay.
WIndows 10 v1909 and v2004 will not install.
I have the BIOS updated to A05

Not sure what else to do other than just install Windows 10.
Do not have key for Windows 8 even this laptop supports Windows 8.

      1. I ended up returning the laptop.

I managed to get Windows 10 installed that evening, somehow. I say somehow because the laptop would go dark and never fully boot to Windows 10 desktop. Hard to explain. BIOS version A05 was suppose to be the key to getting Windows 10 installed. Somehow, the laptop booted to Windows 10 desktop, so I did a Shutdown. It was past midnight.

The next morning when I pushed the Power button, the laptop would not boot. The power LED went on for 1 second when I pressed the Power button then nothing. The AC adapter was still good because the LED on the tip was on. Never seen anything like it.
