If you haven't upgraded to Windows 10 TH2 you will get a 2 day countdown from the GWX (Get Windows 10 Nagware).
I decided to change my date/time in my UEFI BIOS and I got this.
The Windows 10 TH2 Media Creation Tool seems to be unphased by the date change however.
Note that the Windows 10 TH2 Media Creation Tool seems to be completely unphased by the fact that the system's date has changed. This may be because either it connects to Microsoft Servers and the servers report the true date or alternatively because Microsoft have no intention on stopping the Free Upgrade. More testing needs to be done.
More details in this video:
It may also because the tool does not only allow to upgrade, it allows a complete reinstallation for those who have Windows 10 retail licence. If you don't want to reinstall 10240 build and update to 10511, this tool allows it.
I moved the date 5 days backwards (from July 29, 2016 back to July 24, 2016) and GWX adjusted backwards by 5 days too! He he he.
I did an upgrade today from Windows 7 to Windows 10 using the Media Creation Tool as outlined at http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/upgrading-to-windows-10 and it worked perfectly. Also updated a Vista laptop using the Insider Preview method without issue. Microsoft really wants everybody to get Windows 10. The upgrade period is a long way from finished.
Yeah it seems like nothing has changed regarding product activation. I thought with Win7/8.1 keys its too much properly embedded with Win 10 TH2 and later now. Its also useful that the 10130 path still works.
